The Benefits of My Fitness Pal

My Fitness Pal is a great tool for tracking the amount of calories you consume 👌  Simply guessing your calorie intake won’t get you anywhere 🙈  If you consistently and accurately track them then you’ve got a much better chance of reaching your fitness goals.  Here are some of the main benefits of My Fitness Pal.

More Awareness and Accurate Calorie Count 👀

If you weigh out and scan barcodes for your food, drinks and snacks, you get to know exactly how much food and how many calories you actually consume.  This is where you find sneaky calories that you might not think about e.g. the oil you cook with and the sugar in your tea 💡  It makes you more aware of what you put in your mouth and might be the answer as to why you’re not reaching your fitness goals whether it be to lose body fat or gain muscle mass.

Portion Control

This is a big one.  So many people don’t know what a portion should look like 🤷‍♀️  Even too much or too little healthy food can be detrimental to your goals 😭  So using My Fitness Pal will help you see how many calories are in your meal compared to what you think.  I find that most people underestimate how many calories they eat and have their eyes opened when they start tracking.  Once you’ve mastered weighing out portions eventually you can eat more intuitively and tell how much you should put on your plate at the times when you’re unable to track as easily.

Macronutrients and Micronutrients

MFP is also great for seeing the nutrition contained in your foods and what they’re made up of.  It’s important to know your macronutrients (protein, fats and carbs) because your diet might be lacking in one or more of them.  They are all essential for different functions in the body and not getting enough of them will have a negative impact on your fitness goals   Micronutrients are the vitamins (Vitamin A etc) and minerals (Calcium, Potassium etc) found in your food which are also essential for your body to function properly.  You can see how much of these nutrients you are getting from the food you eat using the app so you’ll have an idea if you need to add certain foods to your diet.

Maintain a Healthy Weight

All of the above will help you achieve/maintain a healthy weight and keep you fit and strong.  It’s about educating yourself and becoming more aware of what you put in your body.
