The Importance of tracking food

Importance of food tracking 

Diet is probably the most important thing when it comes to seeing progress in the gym, you can be going to the gym 3-4 times per week but if your diet isn’t great you’re probably not going to see much progress. 

Tracking your food on my fitness is a great way to help get on track with your diet. This will allow you to to see your calorie intake and your macros. This also educates you on how much sugar and fat is in the foods you are eating. You won’t need to do this forever but it is a good way at the beginning to find out your daily calorie intake and educate you on amount of calories in different foods. 

Weighing your food is also really important when it comes to tracking this will help with protion control and will make you aware of how much one portion of something actually is e.g. most of us when having a bowl of cereal will just fill a bowl and count that as a portion, when really you’ve probably poured 2 or 3 portions if you were to weigh it out. 

Everybody is different and there isn’t a set way you need to eat your calories as long as you are in a deficit you will lose weight. Some people eat 5 meals a day some eat 3 and snack more but at the end of the day the total calories are the same. Some people also give themselves more calories at the weekends and eat less during the week to allow them a treat at the weekend or to have a few drinks but again total calories for the week is still the same. You just need to find what works best for your lifestyle and something you are able to maintain long term.
